日本軍に従軍した日系アメリカ人のライフヒストリ–母国と祖国の間で–
日系アメリカ人と太平洋戦争といえば、約十二万人が強制収用されたことや、日系人部隊と呼ばれる４４２連隊に関する事柄が有名であり、様々な文献で紹介され、またメディアでも多く紹介されてきた。一方、戦前多くの二世たちは日本に長期間滞在し、太平洋戦争勃発後も日本に留まった。また、男子二世たちは自己の意思とは無関係に、二重国籍のため日本軍に徴兵され、母国アメリカと戦わざるを得なかった。日本軍兵士として戦った、二世たちには様々な葛藤があったと推測される。日本国内、アメリカでの５０名前後の元日本軍二世兵士たちへの聞き取り調査から、彼らのアイデンティティに関し考察する。

Life stories of Japanese　Americans who served in Japanese Military -torn between the mother-land and home-land.
The Pacific War entailed a vast number of questions pertaining to Nikkeijin history. Luckily, much of this history has been preserved by media attention and literary works and thus will reach generations to come. The revered 442nd regiment and the internment of 120,000 Japanese-Americans are significant pieces of a history that have been successfully preserved. However, in a lesser known segment of history, a great number of Nissei remained in Japan even after the War erupted. Due to their status of dual citizenship, the Nikkei men were drafted into military service under the imperial forces, and were given no choice but to take arms against their homeland. Only through the voices of those who have lived this history can we possibly fathom the issues of identity and personal conflict these individuals were forced to endur. Interviews were conducted on approximately 50 individuals who currently reside in Japan and the US in order to confirm and address the various issues of identity encircling this aspect of history.
