トキオ・ヤマネは第２次世界大戦中の日系アメリカ人強制収容所ツーリレイクでアメリカ市民権を放棄した帰米二世だが、収容中に拷問を受けた唯一の生存者であり、しかも戦後に日本へ強制送還された後も日本へ残り続けるという何重もの「特殊」な経験をもつ。彼の経験はどのような「普遍」性をもちうるのか？　２００４年に報告者が制作したオーラルヒストリー・ビデオの一部を紹介しつつ、多面的に議論を展開する。

On the Possibility of an Oral History without a “Community of Memory”: the Case of Tokio Yamane, a Japanese American Renunciant from the American Concentration Camp.
Tokio Yamane is not only a former renunciant in the American concentration camp, but also the sole survivor of a torture incident and an expatriate who remained in Japan after the war. I will discuss the possibility of the wider ramification of this special single case oral history using the video footage from the documentary I produced in 2004.
